Poser Content Must-Haves

For any new Poser users out there, I put together a list of the most essential pieces of content in my runtime. I bought a lot of content over the last year, and some pieces I never used in a render because they’re too hard to pose, or because they don’t look right in a render. Other pieces get occasional use in special situations.

And then there are the items I use constantly, the ones that were worth every cent I paid and more. That’s what this list is about. If you’re already experienced with Poser, this probably isn’t for you. If you’re new, read on…

Figures

There are plenty of people who use other figures, but if you want to work with the most widely supported figures (meaning those who are easiest to modify and clothe), you need Daz3d’s flagship figures. Here they are:

Character Morphs & Maps

  • Glamorous Vickie / Ingenue Vickie by Jim Burton – It doesn’t seem like many people use these, but I think they’re great. And the bundle includes a bunch of outfits and poses. Costs about $100, but well worth the money in my book.
  • Girl Next Door 2 by Blackhearted & Rio – Let’s get one thing straight. She doesn’t look anything like the girl next door. But she’s a beautiful and curvy figure, perfect for pinups.

Clothing

Hair

  • Liltsure Hair – I’m a big fan of Aery Soul’s hair models. This one is great for fantasy renders with long hair.
  • Jolie Fille Hair – More realistic, roughly shoulder-length.
  • I haven’t had any luck with male hair, except the hair that comes with Hiro. Anybody reading who has advice for the males, I’d love to hear it.

Poses

Most pose sets are so similar, it’s hard to pick the best. But buying poses is the best way to keep yourself from going insane when you’re working in Poser. Here are a few that stand out from the crowd.

Hands

  • Pretty Hands 1, Pretty Hands 2, Pretty Hands 3 by ilona – You might want to adjust the hands in your poses. But to do it yourself would take all day. These sell for about $6 each, and you’ll recover that cost immediately the first time you use them.

If you’re a new Poser user, I hope this was helpful. If you’re experienced, feel free to comment and include your own list.

There’s a wealth of hair out there that works nicely on males. Nearly any hair will work on any figure with a little bit of scaling and moving.

Hair that I personally like to use includes:

Kozoburo’s hair … available at http://www.digitalbabes2.com … excellent hair made for Victoria primarily but can work with anyone and … drum roll please .. it’s all free

Toyo Hair … kinda pricey but works well. It has a tail that lays across the right shoulder which can be a problem if the figure is wearing anything more dense than a t-shirt but the tail can be made invisible and it renders very nicely.

The various DAZ male hair items are good for the most part but quality varies dramatically. The Kurt hair is nice but can sometimes be a pain to render because it eats system resources. The Wedge Cut hair is the classic male hair item and it’s well supported with poses to fit the various DAZ characters.

Anyway I hope that helps some :)

Hey, thanks for the tips! I never saw the Wedge hair before, but it does look worth checking out.
